HTC One M8: Long term detailed review

HTC launched the One M8 in 2014 after the success of the HTC One. The One M8 has a lot to live up to considering that the HTC One was one of the best models made by HTC so far. It has a better design and bigger battery, but is it as good as other flagships like the iPhone 6 and the S Samsung Galaxy S5? We find out in this review.

DESIGN AND DISPLAY The HTC One M8 is a beautifully designed phone and looks more attractive than other flagships. The phone has a curved metal back panel that makes it comfortable to hold. The back curves into the gorilla glass screen. HTC has also minimized the bezel on the phone making the screen to body ratio of 74%. The phone also has a new “Motion Launch” feature which lets you unlock the screen when you double tap on the screen. The 5 inch Super LCD3 screen has a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels which translates to a pixel density of 441 ppi. The screen has great contrast, wide viewing angle, and sunlight legibility is good too. Overall, the screen is an improvement from the previous HTC model but is under par compared to other phones in the same price range. PERFORMANCE AND CONFIGURATION Under the hood is a quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor. The graphics unit on the phone is an Adreno 330. The phone has the latest hardware, and it performs far better than other devices made by this manufacturer. Using the phone gives a very snappy and fluid experience. The phone comes with Android Marshmallow OS and has a 2 GB RAM. You get either 16 GB or 32 GB which can be expanded to 256 GB through a dedicated slot. CAMERA AND MULTIMEDIA HTC has still stuck with the 4 MP camera but has many new features. There is an additional camera at the back of the phone which acts as a depth finder. It gives your photos better effects and adds a layer of depth. There is a new autofocus feature for faster focus. The secondary camera is of 5 MP and takes great selfies. BATTERY AND CONNECTIVITY The phone has a bigger screen and more powerful hardware. This is why HTC has endowed the One M8 with a bigger battery than its predecessor. You will get at least two days’ worth of power with its 2600 mAh battery. This includes 20 hours of 3G talk time and 10 hours of video playback and web browsing. The phone comes with all the standard connectivity options like NFC, radio, USB, GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It also has an IR blaster. PROS AND CONS WHAT WE LIKED 1) Superb design with metal which is easy and comfortable to hold. 2) The latest and the fastest hardware. 3) Extra camera with depth sensor and many other new features WHAT CAN BE IMPROVED 1) Primary camera has a very small 4 MP sensor 2) Taller screen makes it hard to reach the top.
